An altar has been set up at Vinh Nghiem Pagoda in District 3 in HCM City for people to honour the late party general secretary.

On July 22, a long line of people queued in front of the altar for their turn to offer incense and pay tribute to the late party leader.

Tran Thi Kim Thanh and her son joined the line with some fresh flowers in their hands. Thanh said that she had never had a chance to meet Trong, but she had read a lot about him. "He was a great leader who contributed a lot to our country, and all my family love him very much," Thanh said. "So we're coming here to express our thanks and pay tribute to him."

Lan Huong, an HCM City University of Economics student, also came with some friends to offer incense for the late leader. "We've been very sad since hearing about the death of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong," Huong said. "That's a great loss to our country. We can't go to Hanoi to attend the state funeral, so we're coming here to offer incense and express our love and gratitude to him."

Vinh Nghiem Pagoda said that they set up an altar right after Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong died on July 19, and many people had come to pay tribute to the late leader.

Vietnam will hold a two-day state funeral on July 25-26 for Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, according to the State funeral committee led by State President To Lam.

In HCM City, a tribute and memorial service will be organised at the Thong Nhat Conference Hall in District 1 from 7 am-10 pm on July 25 and from 7 am-1 pm on July 26, respectively.
