Rare python found in Haiphong house

An endangered and rare python was found in a house in the northern city of Haiphong.

On January 12, Nguyen Hong Hai, a resident of Ben Hamlet in Cat Hai District, spotted the python slithering into his home. He rapidly rallied nearby residents to help capture the snake, which he then handed over to the inter-district forest protection unit.

Upon receiving the 14-kilogramme python, the agency identified it as an Indian rock python which belongs to Group IIB of the endangered and rare species list. The python was then subjected to a health check.

The forest protection force is finalising the necessary procedures to release the animal into Cat Ba National Park.

The Indian rock python is a native species that resides and is widely distributed across the communes and towns of Cat Ba Island.
