Six people, including the general directors of four enterprises and two engineers, have been fined nearly VND1.10 billion for illegally destroying over 1.70 hectares of natural forests in three communes of Tay Giang District during their construction of a 110kV line connecting the Tr'hy Hydropower Plant to the National Grid.
The fines came after the Tay Giang District Police Department arrested Le Quang Hao, the General Director of the Finance and Energy Development Company, the project's investor, for forest destruction last May.
Initial investigations showed that Hao, 48, directed the contractors to carry out the project in the forest despite not receiving approval from local authorities for land-use transformation. This led to the loss of over 1.70 hectares of natural forest.
Police are further investigating the case.
