Thousands of relief gifts sent to HCM City residents via Dantri/Dtinews' Programme

The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs and Dantri/Dtinews visited and gave thousands of gifts to low-income people in Ho Chi Minh City on August 23.

Each of the gifts includes food and other necessities for a household to use in a week.

Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Van Hoi visited Ward 4 in District 3 to give encouragement and transfer the gifts. This is a part of the Stay Strong Vietnam Programme launched by Dantri to give 2,000 gifts that worth VND1bn sent from the readers to needy people in District 3. The gifts have been given to the residents on August 22 and 23.

Le, a 68-year-old resident in Ward 4, said, "This is a rental apartment. There are only me and my grandchild now. My daughter returned to our home province before the social distancing period so she can't be reunited with us yet. We mostly depend on charity meals. I hope the outbreak will be controlled soon."

Hoi said the government and HCM City authorities have launched several relief packages to support the residents. "At this time, we also need collaboration from every individual, firm and organisation. Stay Strong Vietnam is a model programme during this time," he said.

Pham Thi Thuy Hang, vice chairwoman of District 3 People's Committee thanked the readers of Dantri/Dtinews Newspaper for help. She said their district has about 16,500 households in need of support due to Covid-19, including 400 poor and near-poor households. The district authorities have plans to send 18,000 relief gifts to the households weekly.

"Households with F0 people or have difficult backgrounds will be prioritised," she said.

Le Minh Tuan Anh, party secretary of Ward 4 said after strict social distancing rules were applied, the number of community cases in their area had decreased.

"We'll make sure to send the gift to the needy households in 30 minutes after receiving their call for help," he said.

Hoi asked the authorities in Ward 4 and District 3 to continue sending relief gifts to the residents and urged them to find new and innovative methods to limit the number of worsening cases and fatalities.
