The Ministry of Transport has just approved the construction of a new bridge spanning the Red River in the northern province of Phu Tho.

The bridge will replace the Tinh Cuong ferry, connecting Thanh Ba and Cam Khe districts.

The bridge will replace the Tinh Cuong ferry, connecting Thanh Ba and Cam Khe districts.

In a recent proposal to the ministry, local people said that traffic between the two districts had sharply risen, especially after the two industrial zones of Cam Khe and Phu Ha went into operation.

"The ferry service has been overloaded while boat services are not safe, especially during flood seasons," the local people said in their proposal. "We want to have a bridge to meet travelling demand and promote socio-economic development in the area."

In a document sent to local people on October 18, Minister of Transport Nguyen Van Thang said that he agreed with their proposal and that a bridge was necessary in the current situation.

"The Phu Tho People's Committee will invest the Tinh Cuong Bridge," the minister said. "We'll co-operate with the province to carry out the project."
