Serious flooding in Yen Bai City on September 9

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, as of 11.30 am on September 9, Typhoon Yagi, flash floods, and landslides had left 59 dead, with Lao Cai suffering the most with 19 fatalities.

Hundreds of others were injured, while dozens of others remain missing in flash floods and landslides in various mountainous localities.

Around 113,600 hectares of rice, 22,0507 hectares of vegetables, and 6,890 hectares of fruit trees were flooded and damaged.

Lao Cai Province authorities have declared a state of emergency due to flash floods, landslides and floodwaters. Heavy rain combined with water from upstream on the morning of September 9 caused the Red River's water levels to pass the level three alert level. Meanwhile, water overflowed the riverbanks in downstream areas, threatening residents.

Meteorologists have warned northern mountainous localities about a high risk of flash floods and landslides in the coming days.
