Old pine trees, averaging 15 metres in height and 47 cm in diameter, have become symbols of Da Lat, leaving many residents expressing regrets at their removal.

The expansion of Hoang Van Thu Street will span 1.2 kilometres from the Tran Phu-Ba Thang Hai-Tran Le intersection to the Hoang Van Thu-Nguyen Dinh Quan intersection. The project's total investment is VND138 billion (USD5.56 million).

Earlier, the Da Lat People's Committee proposed cutting down 180 trees for the project. However, the provincial authorities agreed to remove 148 trees.
