The police of Hanoi said on October 9 that they have launched criminal proceedings against three Vietnamese suspects charged with smuggling approximately 100 kg of synthetic drugs from Europe into Vietnam.

The drugs are found hidden in boxes of wine

The trio were Truong Huu Tuan, 31, from Dong NaI province; Tran Ngoc Anh, 31, from Binh Duong province; and Nguyen Van Tuan, 26, from Thanh Hoa province.

The Drug Crime Investigation Division of the Hanoi Police Department, working alongside the Customs Department, discovered a shipment from France arriving at Noi Bai International Airport in mid-July, suspecting that it contained drugs.

Upon a closer examination, the police found eight boxes containing 97.5kg of synthetic drugs, which had been vacuum-sealed and disguised as wine bottles.

Secretly tracking the group to a location in Trung Van ward of Nam Tu Liem district, the police then caught Tran Huu Tuan red-handed transporting nine boxes from a car to a hotel at the European Overseas Vietnamese Village in Mo Lao ward.

A further investigation then led to the arrest of the two additional suspects, Tran Ngoc Anh and Nguyen Van Tuan.

The investigation is currently underway.
