Tu Le to host month-long paragliding festival over golden rice fields

Tu Le Commune in Lao Cai Province will host a month-long paragliding festival from August 30 to September 30, offering flights over terraced rice fields during the harvest season.

The 2026 Flying over Tu Le's Golden Season festival will open at 8 am on August 30 at the landing site in Lim Thai Village, according to a plan issued by the Tu Le Commune People's Committee on August 12.

The festival will feature displays by professional paragliders and tandem flights offering aerial views of Tu Le Valley as its rice fields turn golden.

Visitors can also join tours of terraced fields and explore the traditional culture and daily life of local Thai and H'Mong communities.

Organisers expect the event, combining adventure sports, natural scenery and local culture, to attract domestic and international visitors and support tourism in the area.

Safety measures will cover security, traffic, fire prevention, environmental protection and take-off and landing operations. Rescue teams and medical staff will also be deployed throughout the festival.

Paragliding operators must closely monitor weather conditions, inspect flying and safety equipment and use qualified pilots, with rescue and medical teams stationed at take-off and landing sites and insurance in place for participants.

The festival is also intended to showcase Tu Le's terraced rice fields and cultural heritage while promoting community-based and sustainable tourism.
