Thousands brave rain for colourful Nghe An Carnival

Thousands of residents and tourists braved heavy rain in Nghe An Province on August 18 to enjoy a colourful carnival featuring street parades, music, dance and circus performances.

The "Endless Sunshine" carnival was jointly organised by Nghe An authorities and Sun Group to mark the 81st anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2.

Despite the downpour, crowds packed both sides of Truong Thi Street, many carrying umbrellas or wearing raincoats as they watched performers move along the route from the Lenin Monument area to Muong Thanh Phuong Dong Hotel.

The event brought together 85 artists, performers and circus artists, with four parade groups and three floats accompanied by performances along the route.

The programme featured Samba, Malambo and Latin dances, lotus and sunflower dances, circus acts, LED juggling, stilt walking and fire performances.

Inspired by "Endless Sunshine", the carnival blended traditional and modern performances to showcase Nghe An's nature, culture and development aspirations.

A highlight was a series of elaborate floats depicting local cultural symbols and landscapes, including lotus flowers, Hong Mountain and traditional Vi and Giam folk singing.

Organisers hope the carnival will develop into a new cultural and tourism attraction, helping promote Nghe An as a dynamic destination rich in cultural identity.

A major concert and fireworks display is scheduled for the evening of August 19 at Ho Chi Minh Square, featuring 1,500 high-altitude and more than 1,000 low-altitude fireworks, billed as the largest display ever held in Nghe An.
