Three siblings take care of each other after their parents death

Right after receiving a letter from Tran Thi Ly Secondary School, Da Nang City, requesting for help, DTiNews came to see the place where the three siblings are living at Man Thai 2, Man Thai Ward, Son Tra District, Da Nang City.

Hop has two sisters, the eldest one is Phan Thi Nam Tran, a second year student at Vietnam’s Friendship Information Technology College; the second one is Phan Thi Lien Chau, a first year student at Da Nang’s Architecture University, and Hop, who is in fifth grade.

Speaking with DTiNews, Tran shared, “On that day, on March 25, my parents went to my mother’s hometown to attend a death anniversary party. After leaving the party, my mother took a boat to collect corn. Unfortunately, her boat sunk because of strong wind. My father jumped into the river to rescue her but both drowned.”

The three siblings were born in Dien Quang Commune, Dien Ban District, Quang Nam Province. Then their mother decided to moved to Ho Chi Minh City because it’s difficult to earn a living in Quang Nam. Their lives were not any easier in Ho Chi Minh City so the whole family moved to Da Nang City.

Tran’s mother was a tailor. They had a small store at the Dong Da market. Her father could not go to work after he was involved in a car accident, he could only help Tran’s mother take care of his elderly mother and Hop.

“We are very worried and panicked about how to manage our lives. How will our futures be? I do not know whether I can have enough money for Hop’s studies. He is too small to live on his own,” said Tran through his tears.

Tran Thi Tuyet, Principal of Tran Thi Ly Secondary School said that Hop was a very good student who is particularly good at drawing. He was participating in a drawing contest on the same day when his parents passed away.

Tran takes care of her siblings for her parents. After school, she has to go to work. She also finds time to pick Hop up from his school and teach him at home.

They sleep at their aunt’s house because their rented room is not safe, however, their aunt is also in need and can offer little help.

They do not even have a place to worship and honor their parents. Currently, the altar of their parents is placed at their grandmother’s house.
