Danang students receive scholarships and support

More than 400 disadvantaged students in a mountainous area of Danang received scholarships, while over 5,200 children benefited from free health checks during a child welfare programme on June 5-6.

To mark the Action Month for Children, the Vietnam Association for Protection of Children's Rights organised a scholarship and gift giving programme for disadvantaged children in Tra My Commune, Danang.

The event was attended by Ngo Phuong Ly, spouse of Party General Secretary and State President To Lam and honorary chairwoman of the Vietnam Association for Protection of Children's Rights, along with Nguyen Thi Thanh Hoa, chairwoman of the association, representatives of Danang authorities, medical staff and benefactors supporting child welfare activities.

Tra My Commune is home to more than 5,200 children, many of whom are living in difficult circumstances.

At Kim Dong Primary School on June 5, 404 disadvantaged students each received a scholarship worth VND 4 million (approximately USD 154), along with backpacks and practical gifts for study and daily life.

In addition to supporting education, the programme aimed to improve children's overall wellbeing through free medical examinations, health consultations and medicine distribution for 5,224 children.

Medical teams from the Danang Department of Health and Hospital 199 under the Ministry of Public Security participated in the initiative, contributing to its humanitarian impact.

At the medical examination area, Ngo Phuong Ly and Danang officials spent time meeting children and their parents.

Ly praised the model of providing free medical examinations and health consultations for all children in the commune. She expressed hope that the programme would continue and be expanded to other disadvantaged localities, enabling more children to access quality healthcare services close to home.
