A 20 year-old girl in Nghe An Province is calling for financial support to help cover surgery for her heart problems as her parents cannot afford the treatment.
Nguyen Thi An in Yen Thanh District is now staying at Bach Mai Hospital in Hanoi due to heart problems. Doctors said that she needs an urgent surgery to save her life. However, An’s family is too poor to cover the total cost of VND150 million (USD7,142).

An’s mother Nguyen Thi Dung said that she had sold all valuable assets in her family and borrowed money from different sources to pay for the treatment fees since An was hospitalised some months ago. The operation cost of USD7,142 which is far too much for her family and she does know what to do.
Dung said that An had to leave school early to support the family. She worked for a local garment company with a monthly salary of VND3 million. Since she was sick, the family has faced more financial difficulties.
Doctor Pham Viet Tuan who directly gives treatment to An said that the girl suffers from a serious valvular disease of the heart, causing her trouble breathing and pains frequently.
Sometimes, she is taken to a playing room for children at the hospital so that it can be easier for her to breathe, instead of staying at the crowded sick-room. An’s limbs have become puffed with oedema so that she can’t move by herself.
