On December 28, representatives of Dantri co-operated with local authorities to visit and gave the donations of nearly VND192 million to the family of Hua Thi Et, 92, in Na Loc District.
Et's son has mental problems and has been bed-ridden for years.
Despite old age, Et has to take care of her 55-year-old son who has mental problems and has been bed-ridden for years. They are living on an allowance of just VND1.08 million a month.
Besides the donations, Et and her son also received a wheel-chair, blankets and some functional foods.
Et was moved when receiving the donations, saying that she would use part of the money to repair her house.
"I want to send my sincere thanks to all the kind donors for your valuable help for my family," she said. "This is the largest sum of money I've ever seen in my life. Now I have the funds to repair my house which has become dilapidated."
At the event, Chairman of Van Quan Town People's Committee, Hoang Thi Linh, also thanked Dantri and kind donors for supporting Et's family.
"We’re a poor community so we haven't been able to help much," the official said. "This big support from Dantri and donors is very meaningful to Et's family to overcome their difficulties."
The same day, Dantri representatives also visited and gave the donation of nearly VND158 million to the family of Nguyen Van Dam of the Tay ethnic group. Dam, 37, has been struggling to support his cancer-stricken wife and three small children, one of them having mental issues.
Two other families that received donations included Ha Thi Ca (over VND33 million) and Hoang Thi Tuoi (over VND58 million).
Van Quan District authorities said that Ca will also receive additional support to build a new house in the coming months.
