Weather turns chilly in the north

A strong cold spell hit northern provinces on February 12, putting an end to the unusual hot weather.

A strong cold spell hit northern provinces on February 12, putting an end to the unusual hot weather, says the Central Hydro-meteorological Forecasting Centre.

The spell, which is expected to last for three days, spread to almost all north-western provinces, causing temperatures to drop by 10-12oC to 16-20oC in the plain and 13-16oC in the mountain areas.

It also brought strong winds and rains to the northern and central coastal provinces from Quang Ninh to Thua Thien-Hue.

Another cold spell is forecast to affect northern provinces on February 15 and last for five days, says the weather agency.
Vietnamese people will celebrate their traditional Lunar New Year Festival (Tet) on February 13.
