VND432 trillion (USD17.63 billion) investment has been proposed for projects to develop the northern province of Quang Ninh’s tourism sector by 2030.

The proposal has been jointly made by the Quang Ninh Department of Tourism and the Institute for Tourism Development Research under the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism.

Under the recommendation, VND20.37 trillion will be sourced from the state budget, while the remainder raised from private sources.

Around VND5 trillion will be spent on tourism infrastructure projects in Cua Luc Bay; VND2 trillion will be for Mong Cai City’s tourism projects and VND420 trillion pumped into high-end resorts and other technical infrastructure serving tourism.

The Quang Ninh Department of Tourism and the Institute for Tourism Development have suggested allowing Van Don International Airport to apply a visa waiver policy for international tourists. Favourable conditions should also be given to charter flights to the airport.

Quang Ninh has set a goal to welcome 18-20 million visitors in 2025, including 4.50-5 million foreigners. By 2030, the figure is expected to reach 25.40 million, including 8 million foreigners. The tourism sector is expected to contribute around 15-16 percent to the province’s gross regional domestic product.
