The Ministry of Transport has approved VND3.9 trillion (US$159 million) in funding to build a 52-kilometre road section linking the two Mekong Delta provinces of Kien Giang and Bac lieu.
The section is part of Ho Chi Minh Road, with 45 kilometres travelling through Kien Giang and the remainder in Bac Lieu.
The section will have four lanes and allow vehicles to travel at speeds of up to 80 kilometres per hour.
Around 26 bridges would be built on the section.
In Kien Giang, the Rach Soi - Ben Nhat section will be 11 kilometres long, connecting Chau Thanh District and Giong Rieng District. Meanwhile, the Go Quao - Vinh Thuan section which starts in Go Quao District and ends in Vinh Thuan District will be 41 kilometres.
The project will be carried out during the 2022-2025 period.
Of the total capital, VND540 billion will be used for site clearance.
