Vinh Tan 2 thermal power plant under construction

Construction of the Vinh Tan 2 thermal power plant began in Tuy Phong district, Binh Thuan province on August 8. 

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai asked the Ministry of Industry and Trade to direct related agencies to conclude negotiations for the Vinh Tan 1 and Vinh Tan 3 plants as soon as possible. He also urged the Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN), the Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industry Group, and the Ministry of Transport to carry out related projects on schedule. He requested Binh Thuan province to complete the land clearance early to hand over to EVN, investor.

The Vinh Tan 2 plant is one of three at the Vinh Tan Electric Centre under the national electric development plan for the 2006-2015 period which was approved by the Prime Minister with total investment capital of nearly VND23,500 billion. It has a design capacity of more than 1,240mw and can generate around 7.2 million Kwh.

Once in operation the plant will supply electricity to serve socio-economic development in the south-central region.
