Viettel and Vinaphone imported a second batch of iPhone 3GS units after realising there was still a large market for it.

The demand for iPhone 3GS remains

On August 3, Viettel announced that a new shipment of 3,000 iPhone 3GS units had been shipped into Vietnam. The units will be distributed in its 100 outlets nationwide.

Viettel believes that this amount of iPhone 3GS will meet the demand of their customers as the iPhone 4 is not yet available on the Vietnamese market.

Viettel only has the black or white 16GB iPhone 3GS (locked or international version) model in stock.

Vinaphone announced that they had also ordered a second shipment of the iPhone 3GS units and were waiting for delivery from Apple. The units should arrive in Vietnam in the next couple of days.

Vinaphone also ordered a limited amount of the units to satisfy demand while others wait out the arrival of the iPhone 4.

According to experts, iPhone 3GS remains a favourite among Vietnamese customers because its price is much more affordable than the price of the iPhone 4 (unauthorized models are currently being sold for about VND30 million or $1,560).

Nguyen Dinh Chien, Vice Manager of Mobifone, said that it’s quite difficult to deal with Apple on finalising articles of the iPhone distribution contract with them. This is the main reason why Mobifone still cannot offer the iPhone in Vietnam.
