Vietnam ranks 8th among countries sending students to US

Vietnam ranks eighth among countries sending students to the United States, according to the annual Open Doors report published by Institute of International Education (IIE) and the US State Department's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.

Vietnam has moved up 12 notches since the 2006-07 school year when it was 20th in the world.

The number of Vietnamese students studying in the US increased from 13.5 percent (13,112 students) to 14,888 students in the 2010-11 school year, according to the report.

The majority of Vietnamese students (74.2 percent) were undergraduates, while 16.3 percent had enrolled on post-graduate courses.
