Vietnam confirms highest number of Covid-19 infections in six months

Vietnam confirmed an additional 1,031 new Covid-19 infections on April 17 which is the highest figure recorded in six months, according to the Ministry of Health.

Vietnam is witnessing a reoccurrence of Covid-19 cases and over the past week.

According to experts, the actual figure may be higher as many people undergo a self-test and self-treatment at home.

With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 11,532,103. The country now stands 13th among 230 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.

More than 10.60 million people have recovered from the disease, while 43,186 others have died of the virus and underlying illnesses.

Currently, 14 patients are relying on mechanical ventilation.

The Ministry of Health has asked localities nation-wide to tightened preventive measures to curb the spreading of the virus, including speeding up vaccination.

Around 832,900 doses of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine have been allocated to localities across the country as booster shots for people aged 18, according to the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology.
