UK Minister of State for Defence, Baroness Goldie is paying a visit to Vietnam to further strengthen the bilateral defence partnership.

The UK minister also visited the Vietnam Department for Peacekeeping Operations as the UK reaffirms its support to Vietnam in developing as a UN Troop Contributing Nation. The UK has already supported Vietnam’s deployments, including to South Sudan and Abyei, by training medical and engineering personnel.
During her visit, Baroness Goldie also met with senior representatives from Five Eyes and other like-minded partners to discuss regional challenges and further areas for cooperation.
Speaking at the visit, UK Defence Minister, Baroness Goldie said that she was delighted to have visited Vietnam and met with Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, Vietnam’s Vice Minister of National in order to co-chair the UK and Vietnam’s Fourth Defence Policy Dialogue.
"Celebrating 50 years of our diplomatic cooperation, this visit marks our steadfast commitment to work together on key defence matters, strengthening our existing relationship,” she said.
Following the UK’s recently launched Women Peace and Security Strategy, Baroness Goldie also met with Vietnamese delegates to discuss the strategy and how the UK and Vietnam can work together to protect women in conflict and promote peaceful conflict resolution.
