
Chairman of Xa Ho Commune People's Committee, Giang A Say, confirmed that the 61-year-old man, Tran Thanh, who came from Haiphong City died at 8 am on Sunday while climbing at the height of over 2,000 metres on the Ta Chi Nhu Mountain in Tram Tau District.
"Thanh was climbing the mountain with two women and a local guide," the official said. "He suddenly collapsed while sitting for a rest. The local guide tried to give first aid but the tourist died shortly after. Some local residents helped to bring his body down."
Police in Tram Tau District are further investigating the case.
The Ta Chi Nhu Mountain is 2,979 metres high and is dubbed the roof of Yen Bai Province and the seventh-highest mountain in Vietnam. Ta Chi Nhu is famous for clouds and blankets of violet flowers along the slopes in October and November.
