At least three passengers have died and many others were injured after a passenger bus plunged into a valley in the central city of Danang early Tuesday morning.

According to a report from local police, the accident occurred on the La Son-Tuy Loan Expressway at 1.30 am on January 23 when the bus, which was running from Dak Lak to Thua Thien Hue provinces, suddenly veered into a valley which is over 10 metres deep.

There were 22 people on the bus including driver Phuong Thanh Tung, 36, his two assistants and 19 passengers.

Danang police and rescue forces arrived at the site and found three passengers dead and many others injured. All the injured passengers including three badly hurt have been rushed to Danang General Hospital for treatment.

It was raining heavily and there were strong winds at the time of the accident.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
