Dak Lak provincial police said on September 23 that three local residents had been prosecuted on charges of causing environmental pollution.

The case was uncovered during inspections into the disposal of ordinary solid waste at multiple locations across the province.
Authorities found more than 6,000 tonnes of waste materials had been illegally dumped in the Ko Sier Village area of Tan Lap Ward and on vacant land in Buon Ma Thuot Ward.
The waste consisted of soil, rocks and construction debris generated from building works, renovation projects and demolition activities.
Investigators determined that the suspects had taken advantage of low-lying and depressed land areas to dump and stockpile the waste. The sites were largely hidden from view from surrounding roads, making the illegal activity difficult to detect.
According to Daklak Provincial Police Department, the volume of ordinary solid waste generated by construction activities has been increasing. If such waste is not properly collected, transported and treated in accordance with regulations, illegal dumping and stockpiling can harm the environment and affect local residents' quality of life.
