At the police station, Tam admitted that he had bought a motorbike from an online trader and rode it to a branch of the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) to carry out a robbery.

At around 5pm on December 6, he prepared a pistol, mask and drove the motorbike to the bank on Mai Thuc Loan Street.

The bank’s surveillance cameras showed that Tam entered the bank, pulled out a gun and ordered the cashier to hand over the money. Within 17 seconds, he stole VND725 million (USD31,900).

Some days later, police found the motorbike, a helmet, and a pair of shoes in the area of Dong Ba Market which is around 2km from the bank.

Searching the place in Hue where Tam was living, the police seized the backpack and a black leather jacket he used at the robbery. The police also confiscated the gun which was at a house of Tam’s  acquaintance.
