After few days of cold and drizzle due to weak cold air waves, the weather in northern Vietnam is improving on the first days of the new week, with rain letting up and the sun breaking through clouds to come out.

However, humidity remains high at night and in the morning.

The high level of humidity will no longer exist when a strong cold spell is anticipated to hit northern localities on the weekend and last for several days.

The cold spell will send temperatures tumbling to 14-15 degrees Celsius in the plains and 9-10 degrees Celsius in the highlands.

Weather experts say cold air waves will increase in intensity and frequency in the coming month ahead of the lunar New Year festival. Yet, the temperature of the whole country is still 1-2 degrees Celsius higher than the average for many years.
