According to local authorities, Son La, as home to 12 ethnic minority groups, boasts abundant natural potential for tourism development. In 2019, the province attracted around 2.5 million visitors. The locality sees an annual tourist growth of 23.2 percent.
Son La has proposed adding Moc Chau Airport to the national airport development plan until 2050
The government had earlier issued a decision in August approving the plans for developing the Moc Chau national tourist site by 2030.
The airport would be divided into two phases. In the first phase to 2030, it would serve around one million domestic and international passengers. It would cover an area of around 350 hectares.
The airport’s capacity will be doubled in the second phase (from 2030 to 2050), to two million passengers and the area will increase by 500 hectares.
The project would cost VND6.5 trillion (USD280.17 million) and be carried out under a public-private partnership.
Moc Chau Airport’s international flights would link to East and Southeast Asia.
