Six rhinos have died of unknown causes at an eco-tourism site in the central province of Nghe An.

Six rhinos have died of unknown causes at an eco-tourism site in the central province of Nghe An.

The animals were found dead at the Muong Thanh Dien Lam eco-tourism site in Dien Chau District on September 16.

According to a representative from the district authorities, they were among nine two-horned rhinos imported from Africa to Vietnam many years ago. Each weighs around one tonne and is worth VND5 billion (USD515,412).

At present, the three remaining rhinos are being carefully monitored.

Local authorities are investigating the case.

The Muong Thanh Dien Lam eco-tourism site which covers a total area of 300 hectares is home to 70 species of wild rare animals, including tigers, rhinos, elephants and giraffes.
