On December 23, leaders of Bac Gia Nghia Ward said local authorities had worked with Ta Dung National Park to complete procedures to return the animal to its natural habitat.

According to the ward authorities, on the night of December 22 a group of four local youths were travelling through Dak Ha residential area in Bac Gia Nghia Ward when they unexpectedly spotted the pangolin crossing the road.
To protect the animal, the group captured it and handed it over to Bac Gia Nghia Ward police in line with regulations.
Officials said the pangolin weighed about 6kg, measured 75cm in length and belonged to group IB, a category of endangered and rare forest animals given the highest level of protection in Vietnam.
