President Nguyen Minh Triet and leaders of nearly 30 other countries were at the rostrum yesterday to review a military parade in Moscow, after which Triet took part in a wreath-laying ceremony and attended a state banquet.

In a message to Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, Triet said Viet Nam saluted the victor as having saved mankind from the fascist catastrophe, ending the second World War and bringing about peace for all nations in the world.
"As a nation suffering countless losses during wars, the Vietnamese people share the great losses suffered by the peoples of Russia and the countries of the former Soviet Union during their great war for victory," the message said.
"Together with the world's people celebrating the 65th anniversary of the victory, we are proud to have sided with the Soviet people and democratic and progressive forces in the fight against facism for peace for mankind.
"Encouraged by the great victory of the Soviet people, the Vietnamese people rose up for independence, successfully carrying out the August 1945 revolution and establishing the Democratic Republic of Viet Nam, starting a new and glorious page in the history of the Vietnamese nation.
"History has cemented our two nations together."
The message further said that over the past 60 years, Viet Nam and the former Soviet Union, as well as the current Russia, had built and developed a fine relationship of traditional friendship and multi-faceted co-operation. "Today, Viet Nam and Russia are strategic partners, nurturing bilateral relations for the interest of the peoples of Viet Nam and Russia, for peace, stability and development," it said.
Triet said:"I deeply believe that, with the tradition of the 1945 victory, your country will be successful in prospering and building a powerful Russia with a worthy international position."
