PM urges immediate remedies for damages caused by natural disasters

Since the beginning of the year, heavy rains, thunderstorms and hailstorms on a large scale have swept the regions, claiming the lives of eight people and damaging more than 40,000 houses and 30,000 ha of rice and vegetables.


The PM offered his condolences to families affected by the natural disasters and shared in the difficulties and losses with the local authorities and people.

To effectively cope with and limit the damages caused by natural disasters, the PM requested the concerned ministries, agencies and localities to closely monitor the weather and natural disasters in order to take appropriate responsive measures.

Local authorities were asked to mobilise local forces to assist people in quickly overcoming the consequences while ensuring COVID-19 prevention task, focusing on supporting them to repair damaged houses and providing them with necessities and accommodation.

They were also urged to closely follow bulletins on natural disaster warnings and forecasts for timely and regular notification and guidance the help local governments and people to take responsive measures, as further heavy rains, thunderstorms, lightning and hail are likely to occur in the coming days.

According to reports from the Directorate for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, between April 22 and 24, heavy rains and thunderstorms killed five people, damaged over 10,300 houses and 919 ha of rice, with total losses estimated at VND130.6 billion.

From April 25 night, heavy rains are forecast in the Northwest region, while the Northeast region is likely to suffer from showers and thunderstorms, due to the influence of a reported cold spell.

From April 26 to 27, heavy rains and thunderstorms are forecast to expand across the north and central parts of the Central region, while the Northern and Northern Central regions will be under the influence of the cold spell, with the lowest temperatures ranging from 15-18C.
