According to the plan, Phu Quoc Airport will continue serving civil and military purposes and maintain its classification as a 4E international airport.

By 2030, the airport will handle up to 10 million passengers and 25,000 tonnes of cargo annually. It can accommodate wide-body aircraft such as the Boeing B747, B787, and Airbus A350.

Looking ahead to 2050, the airport’s capacity is expected to reach 18 million passengers and 50,000 tonnes of cargo per year.

In addition to the existing Terminal 1, which has a design capacity of approximately 4 million passengers annually, a new Terminal 2 will be built with a capacity of 6 million passengers. By 2050, Terminal 2 will be expanded to serve up to 14 million passengers annually.

To support this growth, the current runway will be extended at both ends to reach 3,500 metres in length and 45 metres in width. A second runway, measuring 3,300 metres long and 45 metres wide, is also planned for construction during the 2021–2030 period.

The airport will be expanded to accommodate 30 aircraft parking stands by 2030, with a vision to increase to around 45 stands by 2050.

Phu Quoc Airport currently operates with one 3,000-metre-long, 45-metre-wide runway, a passenger terminal with a capacity of 4 million, and 14 aircraft stands. It also includes a cargo terminal with a capacity of 14,500 tonnes per year.

In preparation for hosting the APEC Summit in 2027, the airport will need to add a VIP terminal and 16 additional aircraft stands to accommodate overnight parking for visiting aircraft.

In 2024, the airport served over 4.1 million passengers, exceeding its design capacity, including 2.3 million domestic and 1.8 million international travellers.
