Peak-hour curbs proposed for large vehicles in Hoan Kiem

Authorities in Hoan Kiem Ward, Hanoi, have proposed expanding peak-hour restrictions on vehicles with more than 16 seats across the ward to ease congestion in the city centre.

Under the proposal, large vehicles would be banned daily from 6 am to 9 am and from 4 pm to 7.30 pm within the area bounded by Trang Thi, Phung Hung, Hang Dau, Tran Nhat Duat, Tran Quang Khai, Trang Tien and Hang Khay streets.

The ward plans to establish four transfer points on Ba Trieu, Tran Nhat Duat, Tran Quang Khai and Tran Khanh Du streets to support tourist pick-up and drop-off services.

The expanded restrictions are expected to help reduce congestion around the Old Quarter and Hoan Kiem Lake while maintaining tourism and transport activities through the transfer system.

Hanoi has been piloting restrictions on vehicles with more than 16 seats in parts of the Old Quarter and Hoan Kiem Lake area since March 2025.
