More than 100 households in the northern central province of Thanh Hoa's Muong Lat District have been evacuated as heavy rains have caused serious flooding and landslides in the area.

According to Muong Ly Commune People's Committee Chairman Ha Van Tuan, heavy rains started in the area on the evening of June 6, raising the water level at local springs and rivers. Landslides have occurred, isolating some villages.
"We have decided to urgently evacuate people in some vulnerable areas including Un, Xi Lo, Xa Lung, and Trung Tien villages which are experiencing landslides," the official said. "Over 100 households were moved to safe areas by the evening of June 7."

The northern and central regions of Vietnam have been forecasted to experience more heavy rain in June and July, said a representative from the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting.
Tran Quang Nang, head of the centre’s Weather Forecasting Division, said that torrential rain has been happening in the northern and northern central regions over recent days, causing severe flooding for many areas.
