Northern Vietnam to experience severe cold snap

A strong cold spell is forecast to bring severe cold to northern Vietnam around February 8-9, with frost possible in high mountainous areas.

The National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting reported that on February 5, northern Vietnam and the area from Thanh Hoa Province to Hue City experienced scattered rain, with cold nights and mornings. Northern mountainous regions had severe cold in some areas, while afternoons were sunny. Other regions had isolated showers at night and sunshine during the day.

Due to the influence of a cold front, northern Vietnam is forecast to turn cold from February 7, with severe cold possible around February 8-9. Mountainous areas may experience extreme cold, and high-altitude regions should prepare for the possibility of frost and hoarfrost.

According to the meteorological agency, during this period, the area from Ha Tinh Province to Danang City and the eastern parts of provinces from Quang Ngai to Gia Lai will experience rain, with localised heavy rain and thunderstorms. Northern areas will be cold at night and in the morning. Other regions will have isolated showers and thunderstorms at night, with sunshine during the day.
