Presidium of the Vietnam Fatherland Front member Nguyen Tien Vo proposed to have deputies who are overseas Vietnamese in the 13th NA.
His proposal was offered at the meeting between the NA Standing Committee and the Presidium of the Vietnam Fatherland Front on March 10.
Vo said that the NA should have voices to protect the legal rights and interests of overseas Vietnamese.
“The 12th (current) NA has Prof. Nguyen Lan Dung representing the Liaison Association of Overseas Vietnamese, but the community wants representatives who are Vietnamese people living overseas,” Vo explained.
NA Vice-Chair Uong Chu Luu commented that related laws should be changed immediately. According to Luu, to have overseas Vietnamese deputies, it is necessary to have regulations on how to elect them, how they work overseas and who will supervise them.
