Mother calls for help for injured son

A mother in Lam Dong Province, who already lost her husband and a son, is calling for help to treat her son after a severe accident.

Just months ago, Luong Thi Huong's husband died from throat cancer. While the pain from her husband's death still remaining, both of her eldest sons experienced a traffic accident on November 7. Her eldest son died immediately while the other are being treated for traumatic brain injury.

Huong has to look after her son in hospital while taking care of her youngest son at home. She has been the family's sole breadwinner since her husband was diagnosed with throat cancer.

Their incomes depend on a coffee bean garden and other odd jobs. Huong had to borrow from everyone to pay for her husband's treatment. Now she doesn't have anything value left, while also shouldering a huge debt.

Huong cares for her ill son

Dr. Le Trong Nguyen from Lam Dong General Hospital said Nong Van Tam, Huong's second son, is no longer in a critical situation but he still had headache and vertigo. He said Tam would need long-term and costly treatment to fully recover.

Huong's neighbours have donated to bring Tam to HCM City but it was not enough. Huong has brought Tam home and only goes to hospital with him for check-ups and medicines.

"Doctor said his left eye reflex didn't work. He may recover faster if being transferred to hospital in HCM City but I have no money left. I've spent in all on hospital charges and medicines," Huong said.

The family has nothing valuable to sell

Nguyen Huu Binh, vice head of Hiep Hoa Village said, "Her two oldest sons already dropped out of school to find work. Their situation is really difficult. Now her youngest child may also have to drop out from seventh grade."

The authorities can only give them monthly allowance for poor households but the money is not enough. They also provided financial support to hold the funerals and called for public support.
