More than 10 cities and provinces in Vietnam have permitted students to return to online studies.
The move follows a sharp rise in Covid-19 infections among students after returning to on-site learning after just a short time.
The list of localities includes Dak Nong, Quang Ninh, Vinh Phu, Hung Yen, Phu Tho, Lao Cai City in Lao Cai Province and Buon Ma Thuot City in Dak Lak Province.
However, many localities have still decided to reopen schools for in-person study.
Bui Van Kiem, deputy director of the Haiphong Department of Education and Training, said by February 14, Haiphong had a total of 22,652 Covid-19 teachers and students, including 6,104 not yet vaccinated against Covid-19. But, staying at home still poses many Covid-19 infection risks for students from their relatives. So, the city has resumed face-to-face learning.
Other localities such as An Giang, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Bac Lieu, Binh Phuoc and Danang have followed the suit of Haiphong.
Meanwhile, Hanoi has delayed the sending of grade 1 to 6 students back to school from today, February 21, as most parents have yet to approve their attendance at in-person classes amid the increasing Covid-19 infections.
