Tran Thi Ngoc Trinh, 34, would be detained for three months for an investigation into charges of causing public disorder, the city police announced.
Ngoc Trinh's trainer Tran Van Dong, 36, has also been arrested for three months for "using fake seals and documents of an organisation."
The arrest came after police verified information and clips about Trinh driving large displacement motorcycles and performing dangerous acts on roads in Thu Duc City under the instruction of Dong.
Investigations showed that the dangerous performances were made and recorded in September and October on a road in Thu Thiem Ward, Thu Duc City. In five clips which were posted on some of her social media accounts on October 8, Trinh lay down and kneeled on the saddle, sat on one side of the motorbike and drove without any hands on the handles while riding a large displacement motorbike without protective gear.
The model continued to show off on the bike before falling off and injuring her leg and arm. She was then taken to the hospital for stitches.
Trinh was summoned by the police on October 9. While interviewed by the police, she failed to show a motorbike driving licence. She was then fined VND8.50 million for her two traffic violations.
The police also confiscated two motorcycles used in the clips.
As police further investigated the case, they found the videos had received millions of likes, comments, and shares on her TikTok channel, Facebook pages, and YouTube, including lots of public criticism.
According to the police, such content adversely affected public order and safety, and could negatively affect young people, violating the Code of Conduct for social media behaviour issued by the Ministry of Information and Communication in June 2021.
Meanwhile, Dong was aware that the registration papers of a motorbike were fake but still bought it for Trinh to use.
Ngoc Trinh is a famous Vietnamese model and actress who has 6.80 million followers on TikTok and over nine million followers on Facebook.
