A H’Mong ethnic minority man from the northern mountainous province of Son La who lost his eyesight after being attacked by a bear is calling for help from the public to pay hospital fees.
Hoang A Ky is now staying at Viet Duc Hospital
Hang A Ky said that some days ago when he was picking bamboo shoots in the forest, a bear suddenly appeared and attacked him, causing him to lose two eyes and two fingers.
“The bear reared up behind me slapped me in my face and was left unconscious. Regaining conscious, I found myself at Viet Duc Hospital in Hanoi,” Ky said.
Ky just wants to return to his wife and three children who are facing poverty, and possibly even starvation in the coming days.
Doctor Nguyen Thi Thu Hang, who directly gives treatment to the man, said that Ky had no way of paying his hospital charges. The hospital’s social activity board sent a letter to call for help to Dantri/DTiNews, hoping that readers can help him.
Ky’s condition is very critical. He will have to take surgery to shape eye sockets before receiving artificial eyes. He would face serious infections, so, now, it is impossible to say for sure about his condition.
Ky also lost two fingers due to the bear attack
At present, he is given free food from hospital. However, his family can’t afford to pay the hospital fees. So, his condition totally depends on the community’s assistance.
“I was in the forest picking vegetables and bamboo shoots due to needing to eat, when the incident happened. I’m still haunted by bear attack,” the man said.
