Work on the airport is being sped up. Around 1,800 machines and equipment are being used across 2,500 hectares in the first phase.

Over the past year, roughly 65 million cubic metres of soil have been dug and then filled in the construction site. The dust from the site has plagued neighbouring areas. Many houses in the Loc An-Binh Son resettlement area which is around two kilometres from the airport have been covered by dust.

Dong Nai Department of Natural Resources and Environment asked the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to conduct an inspection into the project’s compliance with environmental protection regulations by late December last year.

According to periodic air quality monitoring results from April to October 2022 from the airport construction site, the dust content exceeded the regulated level by 1.02-18.32 times.

The project contractors have used 50 water tanker trucks to spray water. However, this solution has almost been ineffective as the dust scattered over the neighbouring areas because of the wind.
