Vietnamese chess player Le Quang Liem has jumped from 49th to 27th place in the world rankings, based on his results over the past two months, according to the World Chess Federation (FIDE).
With successes at Capablanca Memorial 2011 and the French Team Championship, Liem’s Elo ranking increased from 2.687 to 2.715, putting him at the standard of an international super grandmaster.
He also jumped from third to first place in the rankings for chess players under the age of 20.
Le Quang Liem will compete from July 19 to August 1 in the Super Grandmaster tournament in Dortmund, Germany, where he took second place last year. He will take part in the Chess World Cup in Russia later in the year.
