Under a plan signed on December 15 by Nguyen Hong Hai, vice chairman of the Lam Dong People’s Committee, Phan Thiet Airport will serve International Civil Aviation Organization Category 4E civil aviation, with a capacity of about 2 million passengers a year by 2030 and both domestic and international flights.
The airport is expected to support Vietnams aviation network, rising travel demand and socio-economic development, as well as defence and rescue operations.
The civil aviation project will cover about 74.6 hectares, including a passenger terminal with a planned floor area of about 16, 000 to 18, 000 square metres. The project will have an operational lifespan of 50 years from the date the investor is formally approved.
Authorities urged relevant agencies to support the investor in completing legal procedures to keep the project on schedule.
Phan Thiet Airport project, located in Mui Ne Ward, was launched in 2015 and includes both military and civil components. While military facilities have largely been completed, the civil aviation component has faced delays due to changes in technical requirements and procedures.
In July, Sun Airport Corporation proposed investing in the civil aviation project, suggesting a shift from a build operate transfer model to direct investment.
