Downpours in Hanoi on May 29 broke the city’s 1986 rainfall record by around 6 mm, flooding many houses in Tu Lien Ward in Tay Ho District. Local people had to temporarily set up wooden bridges to make travel easier.

Rubbish floated due to the rainwater, worsening the pollution.

According to local people, the area’s drainage pipes linked to Tu Lien Lake have been filled because of construction sites. As a result, whenever it heavily rains, the area is severely flooded.

People need to be very careful when travelling along wooden bridges.

Nguyen Gia Thieu, 72, who lives at Alley 91 on Au Co Street said that he had witnessed similar inundation for many years. When the flooding happens, he used wooden bridges. People also have to use a land plot as a parking area during flooding.

Some people use boats to travel when necessary.

A communal house in Residential Area 4 in Tu Lien Ward is covered by water following recent torrential rain.

Pham Huu Cuong from Residential Area 12 had to use a pump to deal with the flooding.

An official from Tay Ho District recognised the serious inundation in Tu Lien in the area between alleys 91 and 139 on Au Co Street, Tu Lien Ward over the past date.
