Ngoc Hien District People's Committee announced on Thursday that they were continuing the search for the three men who went missing after an explosion while in their boat on Wednesday morning.
The incident occurred at 9.30 am on January 17 when three men aged 42, 33, and 16 arrived on a small boat at a river section in Ong Quyen Village, Ngoc Hien District to search for scrap metal on the riverbed.
Some local people then heard a loud explosion coming from where the men were located and arrived to see the boat shattered while the men were missing. A house nearby had its window broken after being hit by pieces of the broken boat.
The committee announced that the rescue team found some parts of the boat and some human body parts at the site.
Representatives from the committee have visited and sent condolences and support to the families of the missing men while an investigation into the cause of the tragic incident continues.
The Cua Lon River spans nearly 60 kilometres and is between 200-400 metres wide.
