Heavy rain forecast nationwide over the coming days

The weather agency said rain will affect all three regions in the coming days, with some areas seeing over 100mm, before heat returns around May 23.

The National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that on May 18, northern, central and southern Vietnam saw scattered showers and thunderstorms, with some areas experiencing heavy to very heavy rain.

Rainfall recorded between 7am and 8pm the same day exceeded 70mm in some places, including Muong Lan in Son La Province at 76.6mm, Duc Nhan in Phu Tho Province at 74.4mm, Vinh Son in Gia Lai Province at 93.8mm, Bac Ai Tay in Khanh Hoa Province at 90.4mm, Nong Son in Danang City at 89.8mm, Khe Mo Rang forest ranger station in Hue City at 84.4mm, Krong No in Dak Lak Province at 266.2mm, and Thanh Hoa in Tay Ninh Province at 90mm.

Forecasters said that from the evening of May 18 to May 19, the northeast, Thanh Hoa Province and Nghe An Province would see rain, moderate rain and scattered thunderstorms, with rainfall generally at 20-40mm and more than 100mm in some places. The northwest, areas from Ha Tinh Province to Lam Dong Province, and the south would see scattered showers and thunderstorms, with rainfall generally at 10-30mm and more than 80mm in some places, mainly in the late afternoon and at night.

The weather agency said that from the night of May 19 to May 20, the north, Thanh Hoa Province and Nghe An Province would experience moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms, with some places seeing very heavy rain. Rainfall was forecast at 30-60mm, with some areas receiving more than 150mm.

The agency warned of rainfall intensity exceeding 100mm within three hours. Thunderstorms could also bring whirlwinds, lightning, hail and strong gusts.

From the night of May 20 to May 21, the north, Thanh Hoa Province and Nghe An Province would continue to see moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms, with some places experiencing very heavy rain. Rainfall was forecast at 30-60mm, with some areas receiving more than 120mm.
