According to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, northeastern Vietnam is expected to see daytime highs of 35-37 degrees Celcius from August 9, with some areas exceeding 37 degrees Celcius.
From August 10, the heatwave is forecast to expand to the northwest, the area from Thanh Hoa to Danang, and eastern Quang Ngai Province, where temperatures are expected to range between 35 degrees Celcius and 36 degrees Celcius.
Forecasters warned that high temperatures and low humidity could increase the risk of fires and place greater pressure on electricity demand, while prolonged exposure to the heat could lead to dehydration.
The weather agency said average temperatures nationwide in August are expected to be 0.5-1 degree Celcius above the long-term average, with the south-central coast likely to experience more hot days than usual.
