The HCM City Department of Culture and Sports has proposed holding a range of cultural and artistic activities to welcome the 2024 Tet Lunar New Year.
Under the recommendation sent to the municipal people’s committee, activities will take place from January 30 to early February.
The annual Xuan Que Huong or Homeland Spring programme will be held on February 1-2. This is the biggest cultural event held for overseas Vietnamese during the Lunar New Year and will feature the participation of State President Vo Van Thuong.
The city will launch a floating flower market opened at Binh Dong Park in District 8 on February 4-8.
A ceremony offering Banh Tet (cylindrical glutinous rice cake) to the Hung Kings and Nguyen Huu Canh, who founded the Saigon-Gia Dinh region (now called HCM City) in 1698 will be organised at the Ethnic Culture Historical Park in District on February 2-4.
On Lunar New Year’s Eve, the city will hold stunning fireworks displays in some areas, including Saigon River Tunnel in District 2 and Dam Sen Cultural Park in District 1. Each firework display will last for 15 minutes.
A 3D light performance will also be at the city People’s Committee headquarters in District 1 on Lunar New Year’s Eve.
During Tet, many other annual activities will be hosted in HCM City, including Le Loi Book Street in District 1 and Nguyen Hue Flower Street.
