According to the HCM City People’s Committee, Thu Duc City tops the list with eight erosion spots, followed by Nha Be and Can Gio districts with seven each, Binh Chanh District with four and Hoc Mon and Cu Chi with one each.
An erosion spot in HCM City
Among those, eight are considered the most dangerous and are situated in Thu Duc, Binh Chanh, Nha Be and Can Gio districts.
Most erosion spots are by the Saigon, Dong Nai, Phuoc Kieng, Can Guoc and Cho-Dem Ben Luc rivers.
The municipal people’s committee has asked concerned agencies to stop illegal sand extraction on Saigon, Dong Nai, Long Tau and Soai Rap rivers.
Local authorities need to inform people about erosion to avoid possible risks.
Fences are needed to cover the erosion spots to ensure safety. People near these sites should also be evacuated if necessary.
